How three decades of basic research on inflammation led a researcher to take the plunge and found AISA Therapeutics.
The question that changed everything
At the heart of the laboratories of the University Paris Descartes, Patrizia D’Alessio observes, for years, something that no one seems able to clearly name: silent inflammation is responsible for diseases.
In cells that age prematurely. In skin that deteriorates without apparent reason. In stressed bodies that suffer in silence. As a medical doctor and researcher in cellular biology, she then asks the question that will become the guiding thread of her entire career:
« What if we could stop inflammation at its source before it becomes disease, before it becomes aging ?»
Twenty years of
bio-guided research
From lab to lab, from Utrecht to Paris, via London, academic collaborations with Hanoi and Shanghai, a determined researcher tracks down the molecule capable of answering her central question.
The intuition of plants
During her postdoctoral work in London, Patrizia D’Alessio works alongside the laboratory of Dr. Barry Halliwell. She deepens her understanding of the links between free radicals and inflammation. At the time, several concepts are emerging, such as «inflammaging» and SIPS (Stress-Induced Premature Senescence).
2,000 extracts screened
Appointed Professor of Cellular Biology, in 1997 she launches a large-scale bio-guided research program: more than 2,000 plant extracts (in collaboration with the ICSN and the University of Montpellier) are analyzed and tested.The objective is clear: to identify non-toxic anti-inflammatory molecules that are active at the cellular level reversing senescence.
The molecule found
Now based at the University Paris Sud-11, following her discovery of an anti-inflammatory monoterpene of natural origin with powerful anti-senescence properties, patents are filed simultaneously in Europe, the United States, and China. A collaboration with the Fudan University in Shanghai and the Gongli Hospital is initiated to validate another terpene derived from a different plant.
The first human studies
The European consortium RISTOMED, co-directed by Patrizia D’Alessio, brings together several European universities to conduct the first in human clinical study on the anti-inflammatory effects of nutrition. It also tests several dietary supplements, including AISA capsules.The results confirm that healthy aging through nutrition and supplementation is possible.
I had the scientific proof. I had the patents. I had the clinical results. The only question that remained was:
was I going to keep all of this in a laboratory drawer, or was I going to put it to use for those who needed it?

The birth of AISA Care
In 2005, armed with the National Prize for Innovative Business Creation awarded by the Ministry of Research, Patrizia D'Alessio took a step that few researchers dare to take: she founded AISA Therapeutics, still remaining at University until the end of the RISTOMED trial.
The name says it all: Anti-Inflammatory Senescence Actives. Not just another cosmetics brand. An applied science approach, rooted in years of fundamental research, with a single ambition: to make accessible what biology has taken decades to understand.
AISA Care is the natural continuation of this journey the translation, for the general public and healthcare professionals, of a deep scientific conviction: inflammation is the central mechanism of aging. And it can be changed.
