D-Limonene
The molecule at the heart of AISA. Extracted from sweet orange peels, it reduces inflammation, improves your mood, and slows down aging. Here’s how.
What is d-Limonene ?
D-limonene is a natural compound found in citrus fruits, primarily in orange peels.
It is what gives off that fresh, lemony scent when you peel an orange. But beyond its scent, it possesses powerful biological properties.
After 30 years of bio-guided research, Prof. Patrizia D’Alessio identified d-Limonene as the most effective molecule among more than 2,000 natural extracts tested to reduce chronic inflammation and reverse cell senescence.
How does it work ?
D-limonene acts on multiple mechanisms at once. That’s what makes it so powerful.
1. It reduces inflammatory cytokines.
Pro-inflammatory cytokines are the messengers of inflammation. When your body is inflamed, it produces cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α).
D-limonene inhibits the production of these cytokines.
Less circulating cytokines = less inflammation.
In the RISTOMED study (first human trial), participants saw their IL-6 levels decrease by 48% in 12 weeks.
Objective: a balanced and efficient immune response.
2. It improves your microbiota
D-limonene acts like a prebiotic. It helps maintain a healthy balance between beneficial and harmful bacteria in your gut.
A balanced microbiome results in:
- Less intestinal inflammation
- Better production of serotonin (mood, sleep), dopamine (reward), and GABA
- A stronger immune system
- A healthy intestinal barrier
3. It protects your mitochondria
Mitochondria are the «power plants» of your cells — they produce your energy.
Inflammation and oxidative stress damage them. D-limonene protects them by neutralizing free radicals.
Result: more energy, less fatigue.
4. It modulates the immune system
D-limonene does not «boost» your immune system aggressively — it rebalances it.
- If your immune system is overactive (allergies, autoimmune diseases), it helps calm it.
- If it is weakened, it helps support it.
If your immune system is overactive (allergies, autoimmune diseases), it helps calm it. If it is weakened, it helps support it.
2 capsules per day, preferably in the morning (with or without food).
You may notice the first effects immediately on your energy levels and mood.
For optimal results in terms of skin health and inflammation management, take this supplement regularly for 3 months to help stabilize the functioning of your mucosal immune system.
5. It affects mood
D-limonene influences the production of dopamine (directly in the brain).
It also has the ability to activate the vagal system, producing an anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effect demonstrated in studies.
People taking d-limonene report:
- Better mood
- Less stress
- Improved sleep quality
- More motivation
6. It protects the skin.
By reducing inflammation, d-limonene slows down collagen degradation. It also helps neutralize free radicals that accelerate skin aging. In addition, its repair and relaxation activity improves the quality and appearance of the skin (elasticity).
Scientific evidance
1. RISTOMED study (European FP7)
138 participants, 45 days, type 2A clinical study
Results:
- –48% inflammation (IL-6)
- –42% TNF-α (another inflammatory marker)
- Reduction in fibrinogen, insulin, blood glucose, and HOMA-IR
- Improvement in mood and energy
- No adverse side effects
- Statistically significant improvement in grip strength
2. International patents
AISA holds 3 international patents (Europe, USA, China) for the use of d-Limonene to:
- Reduce inflammation and cellular senescence, as well as inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases
- Manage non-pathological stress in humans and animals, improving mood and cognition
- Treat skin conditions (psoriasis, atopic dermatitis), burns, stretch marks, cellulite, and hyperpigmentation, while slowing skin aging with a visible anti-wrinkle effect and improved elasticity
3. Scientific publications
More than 15 publications in international scientific journals confirm the effects of d-Limonene on inflammation, the microbiome, mood, and skin.
Why 30 years of research?
With the help of ethnobotanists from the University of Hanoi (Vietnam), finding the right extract was not the most difficult part. Each extract contains around 20,000 molecules. In collaboration with the University of Montpellier, Pr. Patrizia D’Alessio tested more than 2,000 molecules across one hundred extracts before identifying d-Limonene as the most effective.
It was then necessary to:
- Isolate pure d-Limonene
- Stabilize the molecule (it is volatile)
- Optimize the dosage
- Test its bioavailability in preclinical (laboratory and animal) studies
- Validate dosage and bioavailability in clinical (human) trials
- Patent the technology
Result: AISA moleculum®, a 100% natural, scientifically validated supplement with no side effects.
Why can't you just eat oranges?
Good question! d-Limonene is found in orange peels, not in the juice.
To reach an effective dose of d-limonene (as used in studies), you would need to consume about 30 to 40 oranges per day — just the peels. Good luck with that.
AISA concentrates and purifies d-Limonene to deliver the optimal dose in just 2 capsules per day.
Who is AISA moleculum for?
D-Limonene is particularly beneficial if you:
- Feel constantly tired despite sleeping
- Experience mood swings, stress, or anxiety
- Notice visible skin aging (wrinkles, loss of firmness)
- Have digestive issues (bloating, discomfort, pain)
- Are physically active and want better recovery
- Are looking for a preventive approach to aging
- Foster your healthy longevity strategies on base of geroscience.
How should I take it?
2 capsules per day, preferably in the morning (with or without food).
The first effects on energy and mood may be felt immediately.
For optimal results on skin health and inflammation, plan a 3-month course of regular use to help stabilize mucosal immune function.
How AISA acts on the Gut, Brain & Skin axis
AISA's d-Limonene reduces intestinal inflammation, improves microbiota diversity, and strengthens the intestinal barrier. By acting at the source (the intestine), it improves both your mood and your skin.
